CONFERENCE FINANCIAL GRANTS
The Bicycle Tour Network is pleased to offer a financial grant to individuals and organizations who wish to attend the annual National Bicycle Tourism Conference but lack the funds for conference fees, accommodations and other associated costs. Funded by member fees and member organization donations, The BTN Conference Grant can be used for one or more of the following categories depending on the need of the applicant. All non-members awarded a grant would also receive a one year BTN membership.
- Conference Fee
- Membership Fee (non-members only)
- Accommodations Costs
Grant awardees must submit a blog post that can be used on the BTN site for advertising or other social media during or after the conference. The purpose of the blog is to provide a first hand account of their experience, as well as to share how they plan to improve their business or event as a result of being at the conference.

TESTIMONIAL FROM 2017 GRANT RECIPIENT
Every cyclist understands the importance and value of clean air and healthy lungs. The Bicycle Tour Network underscored their commitment to the best interests of the cycling community by allowing the American Lung Association ride director in Kentucky to attend BTN’s annual conference on a scholarship this year.
The Lung Association’s Bike Trek is a 32-year-old fundraiser looking to make some moves to boost ridership, and we came to the right place for big ideas. After a particularly insightful presentation on sponsorships – better thought of as partnerships – followed by a re-connection during a networking session, we are poised to grow a powerful relationship in 2018.
Add a conversation with a vendor exhibitor, and we discovered a great cost-saving idea that will allow us to significantly reduce risk and overhead, thus directing more money to the mission: saving lives by improving lung health through education, advocacy and research.
Fundraising aside, there are a million event logistics to master … and mastery comes a lot faster when you’re sitting in a room full of experience. I’ll admit it, I have room for improvement at my rest stops, and they’re one of the most critical elements of the event experience. Check that box. I now know just what to add and how to make sure riders don’t miss the stops … there’s an app for that.
One keynote speaker pointed out that the cycling industry is all about keeping people healthy and supporting environmental stewardship. Coincides nicely with the American Lung Association’s work advancing lung health and clean air. After all, we’re all powered by lungs.
Thanks, BTN; we are so grateful!
Shannon Baker, Development Manager for the American Lung Association in Kentucky
